This film centers around Grace (Brie Larson), who is the supervisor of Short Term 12, a group home for troubled teens. She does her best throughout the film to help these kids get through life when they are dealing with difficult circumstances, along with her boyfriend Mason (John Gallagher Jr.), and their other coworkers. Grace bonds with a new teen at Short Term 12, Jayden, whose situation is eerily familiar to Grace. This film deals with some very heavy topics, and does so gracefully and in a revealing, refreshing way. It not only shares Grace and the other adult's point's of view, but those of the kids living in Short Term 12 as well.
This film is not only incredibly well written, both in story and character, but also has beautiful cinematography. The cast is wonderful and includes Stephanie Beatriz, Rami Malek, John Gallagher Jr., and Kaitlyn Dever. It is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and has won the Grand Jury and Audience awards at South by Southwest. It also scored a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was I highly recommend this film to everyone.
